The 16th President of the Philippines, Rodrigo “Digong”
Duterte had just been officially taken to oath in front of many Filipinos. The oath-taking
ceremony was held at Rizal Hall in the MalacaƱang Palace. His daughter Veronica
was the one held the bible.
President won the last Philippine Presidential Election held
last May 9 by huge margin to other presidential candidate. Many Filipinos knows
about President Duterte, when he was still a Mayor of Davao City. President
Duterte’s platform was about “change”, not just about change, a total fix on
the Philippines. From the government officials committing corruption to
fighting the illegal drugs that many Filipinos are being engaged.
President Rodrigo Duterte now, have 6 years of service, that
those promise he made during the campaign will be put on the reality. And those
promise Filipinos believes that he could change the Philippines.
This are the five problems that President Duterte will be
facing in the upcoming 6 years of his service:
1. Economy
Today, Philippines is consider one of
the best-performing country in terms of the economic growth. With 6.1 % Annual
growth. But many Filipinos still don’t feel this economic growth, they still
struggling to find a decent jobs.
Also, a huge traffic congestion in
the Metro Manila, especially EDSA, consider to be the problem of the past
administration, but still no concrete solutions on it. If this problem will be
solve, many foreign investor will be flocking in the Philippines. It will then
convert into many jobs for the Filipinos.
2.
Crimes
President Duterte promise to the Filipinos,
that he will “eradicate the drugs in just 6 months”. Eradication on illegal
drugs seems to be an impossible task, many administrations had failed on this.
But President Duterte might the who could, because of what he do in Davao City,
when his still the city Mayor, but might take some time not just within 6
months. He is planning to increase the salary of the police officer and the
Armed forces.
During his inauguration, he said “fight”
against crime “will be relentless and it will be sustained.” Also, Duterte
added “As a lawyer and former prosecutor, I know what is illegal and what is
not. My adherence to due process and the rule of law is uncompromising.”
Death penalty will again implemented
in the Philippines, under President Duterte, which it might an impact on the
crimes, and also many human-rights activist were against it.
3.
Insurgency
Even before President Duterte had his
official oath-taking there’s been a peace talks between the Communist Party of
the Philippines (CPP-NDF). He believes that, this insurgency needs to be hear
on what they are fighting for. Also the found of Communist Party was his
teacher in college.
Also, President Duterte, talks to
other group this includes the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro
National Liberation Front (MNLF).
But he did not include the Abu Sayaff
Group, because he believes that this group is terrorist organization, which
needs to be eradicated.
4.
Territorial
Dispute in South China Sea
This is a problem since last
administration, where their no concrete solutions had been produce, many talks
had just been done still Chinese Navy was reported of harassing many Filipino
fisherman in the Spratly Island.
President Duterte, tells that China
and Philippines will have a formal talk about the dispute that currently
happening at the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea.
Because of the resource that in Spratly
Island and neighboring island, China greatly shows its interest on it. They have
some military base on the area.
This are some of the problems, that President Rodrigo Duterte
will facing during his term, but many Filipinos believes that, he is the right
one this job. And they are hoping that change will be happened during his 6
years.
